Well, believe it or not, Shauna, I wasn't always as interested in fashion as I am now.1:04
When I was starting off, I went for an interview for a fashion designer wearing the dullest clothes possible.1:09
I looked so awful that they didn't even interview me.1:16

But you've certainly changed.1:22
You dress very fashionably now.1:24
So what would you say to young people facing their first interview?1:27
Well, first of all, there is so much competition for jobs these days that you have to stand out a little if you want to make an impression.1:31
You mean wear something really outlandish?1:38
No, I don't mean that at all.1:42
Just like experts tell us to brighten up our CVs and tailor them to the job in question, I would say to do the same with our appearance.1:44
Well, if the interview is for a creative job, let's say the position of art director, you're not going to show up in a long black suit and white shirt.1:53
But then again, that's exactly appropriate if you're interviewing for a marketing manager's position.2:03

And what about the guys out there?2:11
I'm afraid women have a lot more opportunities to be creative in their dress than men.2:15
But the lads can do something, too.2:20
They can show their individuality in their choice of tie or wear an unusual tie pin.2:23
The most important thing to bear in mind is that you should be presentable.2:29
No visible tattoos or body piercings.2:34
And I can't stress this.2:38
The more research you do about a company, the better this can benefit you in many ways.2:40
You will handle the interview better and you will get a clearer idea of what the dress code might be like.2:47

Some companies are very conservative, while others allow a bit of individuality.2:59

Try to get in touch with people who already work for that company and ask questions about the dress code.3:07
Another alternative is to take the bull by the horns and just call the human resources office and ask.3:14
Any general tips that you consider a must for any potential interviewee?3:21
Well, first and foremost, never wear jeans.3:26
They are far too casual for any interview.3:29
Women should avoid short miniskirts and loud, noisy jewellery.3:33
Men should not wear casual jumpers or leather jackets.3:38
Better stick to a suit, either blue or grey in colour.3:42
