Well, yes, we run an instructional school for sailing.0:21
We train our students in what is known as offshore sailing as well as navigation.0:25

Do the students actually live aboard the sailboat the whole time or do they get to stay in some beachfront hotel and spend their days on a sailboat?0:33
Because either of these options sounds pretty terrific.0:41
Actually, the students can do either depending on the length of the course.0:45
We have shorter courses that last only six to ten days where the students will spend all of their time on the sailboat.0:49
We also have longer courses lasting about four weeks where the students are based on land and have daily instruction and sailing.0:57
Now, during these longer programmes, do the students ever get to sleep on the sailboat?1:05
The longer programmes include a number of trips that last anywhere from two to four days with the students sleeping on board the sailboat.1:11
During these trips, we try to make port at some of the more interesting islands nearby to to allow the students to not only get a feel for sailing, but also for the local culture and way of life.1:20

Why did you get involved with sailing anyway?1:38
I'm originally from London and as I'm sure you know, the sun is in scarce supply over there.1:41
But more importantly, I've always had a passion for the sea and I want to be able to make it possible for young people who share the same passion to experience it as fully as possible.1:48
What are some skills besides sailing that these kids will be able to gain while participating in your program?2:00

Well, the most important skill the kids learn is teamwork.2:08
Sailing is not a one person sport.2:13
You need everyone working together, communicating and and sometimes even anticipating what needs to be done before being told to do it.2:16
And are there other benefits too?2:25
Well, sailing requires a lot of discipline and a good level of alertness and awareness of your surroundings as a lack of attention could result in serious injury.2:27
Also, the young adults that take the course learn to rely on and improve their common sense and to intuitively use various skills they have learned along the way, like how to read the weather and how to identify landmarks2:38
