Week 1: My Antarctic Adventure Begins.0:29
Hi everyone!0:34
Well, here I am at the scientific research station in Antarctica, the coldest, windiest, and driest continent in the world.0:36
It's summer right now, so the weather is quite mild.0:45
It's 0 degrees Celsius today.0:49
There are still a lot of gales though.0:53
And of course, the sun never sets in the summer, which is really weird.0:55
Despite the freezing cold, the scenery and wildlife here are incredible.0:59
There are seals everywhere, and yesterday I saw a humpback whale.1:04
Everyone is warning me about the winter here.1:09
The temperature will drop to about -40°C, and the sun won't rise at all.1:12
There will only be 20 of us, and we won't have any visitors for 7 months.1:18
It'll be difficult, but at least I'm going to be very busy.1:23
As a marine biologist, I'm going to study the way marine wildlife adapts to extreme temperatures.1:28
I'm also going to do a survey of the threatened emperor penguin.1:35
I can't wait to start.1:39
Tomorrow, all the newcomers are going on a survival course for a week with ski-doos and sledges.1:41
We're going to camp in the snow and learn things like what to do if we fall down a crevasse.1:48
I hope there won't be a blizzard like the one we had on my first day here.1:54
Well, bye for now.1:59
I'll tell you all about the course when I'm back at the research station next week.2:00
