Creatures of legend.0:14
People all over the world love to tell stories of terrifying giants, magical unicorns, and mysterious mermaids.0:25
Here are two of these magical tales.0:34
Bolster.0:51
The giant Bolster was so big that with one step, he could travel six miles from hilltop to hilltop.0:52
He lived in Cornwall, on the tip of England, and terrified the locals, stealing sheep and even eating people.1:01
One day, though, he fell in love with a young girl called Agnes and asked her to marry him.1:10
Agnes didn't want to, so she tried to think of a way to get rid of him for good.1:17
She asked him to do dangerous things to win her love.1:23
But nothing worked.1:26
So she had one last idea.1:28
She asked him to fill up a hole in a nearby cliff with his blood.1:31
Bolster agreed.1:35
After all, how much giant's blood does it take to fill a small hole?1:37
The hole, though, led down into the sea.1:41
All his blood ran into the sea.1:45
And that was the end of the evil giant.1:47
This is a very popular legend in Cornwall.1:51
Locals say you can still see a red stain on the cliffs at Chapel Porth.1:53
Iara, the mermaid.2:04
In Brazil, the locals tell the myth of the mermaid Iara, who lives in the Amazon River.2:13
One night, a young man dreamed of a beautiful woman singing a sad song.2:20
The next day, he went fishing with his father and saw the woman from his dream in a hut, floating on the water.2:25
She sang to him and he went to her.2:33
Too late.2:36
The man's father saw that the woman had the long tail of a pink dolphin.2:37
She grabbed the young man and dived into the water with him.2:41
His father never saw him again.2:45
To this day, the locals still say that they sometimes see the mermaid swimming deep in the water.2:48
And when they hear the sad song of the mermaid Yara, they lock their doors and stay far away from the river.2:55
