Masha, what made you decide to study abroad?0:13
I can't tell you exactly why I decided to go to the us.0:17
I had always been interested in English and English speaking countries.0:22
I wanted to see America with my own eyes.0:27
So when I learnt about the program sponsored by the American government, I made up my mind to have a try.0:30
Life in America is fairly expensive.0:38
How were you able to afford it?0:40
I could afford a year of studying in Texas because the program gave the winner an opportunity not to pay for anything.0:43
I was also given a scholarship, over $200 every month in order to be involved in various activities with with my new American friends.0:51
What were your impressions of the country?1:00
During my last year at school in Russia, I read a lot about the USA and was very serious about my future.1:03
So I came with some knowledge about the country.1:09
I knew that Americans are a nation that historically had always been on the move.1:12
And it is still true nowadays.1:18
Americans love to travel.1:21
They there are so many cars moving in all directions.1:23
I think a symbol of America should be a car or a truck.1:26
What difficulties did you have?1:30
What about this so called American accent?1:32
I had some problems at the beginning, but you get used to the accent very quickly.1:35
What was really difficult for me was the necessity to use English 24 hours a day and also American food.1:41
When you hear only English and have to speak it all the time while dealing with people, you start feeling that your mind is going to explode.1:51
But it is certainly the best opportunity to master the language and make good progress in it.1:59
As for the food, I am not a fan of fast food which America is so fond of.2:05
What would you recommend a visitor to the USA to do?2:10
Try to see as much as you can.2:14
Go to different places in the country.2:16
California is definitely one of them.2:18
The Niagara Falls and the Mississippi are among others.2:21
What benefits did the year abroad give to you?2:25
That year was truly beneficial.2:28
I found a good friend there.2:31
She's coming to Russia next summer to see me.2:33
My American experience has taught me a lot.2:36
I think now I'm able to understand people better.2:39
I have found out how complicated but interesting the world we live in is.2:42
How different and yet how much the same people all over the world are.2:47
And certainly my English has greatly improved.2:51
What would you say to those hoping to follow your footsteps?2:55
